This song featured in the film ‘suicide squad’ and was used to describe Harley Quinn and The Joker’s relationship, written more from Harley Quinn’s point of view. The use of the metaphor ‘gangsta’ not only connotes that there’s an unwritten rule of loyalty but also stereotypically gives the idea of someone who parties hard, does drugs, and is dangerous. The song is written from the point of view of someone who is in an abusive relationship but doesn’t see it as abuse as they’re ‘built for it’ so instead it is romanticised as two people who are ‘fucked up’ instead of in a toxic relationship. The relationship’s romanticised because she mistakes the abuse for love and is seen as just as ‘crazy’ as him, which is what makes their relationship seem so appealing.
