Key Elements To Include In My Video
Love song conventions:
Most love songs typically include a story ( typically about past or current love or idealising a potential lover) and also performance, dance or lip-syncing to the song (typically seductive to the camera).
Shots typically follow the codes and conventions of music videos in general, however shots that are used more frequently are close ups, mid shots and extreme close ups highlighting sensual areas of the body e.g. lips. Shots however are not necessarily fixed to genres but instead are down to what the artists wants to produce.
The editing techniques often include realism in order to build a connection with the audience, therefore there’s a reduced amount- of any- CGI. Cuts and sounds in time with music, often change due to tempo. For example with faster hip hop songs the shots would be shorter compared to a smooth jazz song where the shots would be longer and change less frequently.
Mise en scene is ambiguous as there’s room for interpretation, and there’s no generic codes and conventions for mis en scene. Different genres of love songs have different lighting/makeup/costumes - for example a video about a break up would include darker costumes and lower lighting.
For my music video im going to use a dark colour scheme including black and red to symbolise the darker tone for my video, with red connoting danger, passion and love.
The intertextuality in my video is the inspiration from the film ‘Suicide squad’ and producing a video showing a relationship like Harley Quinn and The Joker’s like in suicide squad. The song ‘Gangsta’ I am using was written for this film and to be used when broadcasting their relationship so im taking inspiration from that. I am also going to be using inspiration from the music videos I analysed as they all had colour schemes like I plan to use and different editing techniques, and shots I would like to use.
I will include characters representing male and female social groups, as I want the video to only include 2 characters to focus on their relationship and highlight this as the main focus. In the video I will include 2 different settings to show the male character in a separate, darker location than the female character. The graphics on the video will be bold and sans serif as it appears stronger and more serious which signifies the storyline. Different types of tones will be conveyed in the video due to the contrast in shots of the female alone and male alone.
